ENGLISH

The inclusion of English as a Foreign Language within the curriculum of Compulsory Secondary Education is due to the necessity to contribute to the achievement of the objectives and to social reasons.  The increase of international relationships in our society because of educational, professional, cultural reasons and the rapid development of communication media and information and communication technology makes the knowledge of English a growing necessity since English has become the international language of sport, technology, politics, business, international conferences etc...  All this makes this language be an essential tool.

Taking these ideas into consideration, we can see the overwhelming importance of the teaching of English as a foreign Language as part of the Spanish curriculum, but also in terms of Spain’s membership of the European Union.

As part of the linguistic programme our main target is to encourage our students to use English in their classes as much as possible with the exploitation of motivationg resources to boost their linguistic competence.

Occasionally we have the help of English-native speakers who come to school to work as conversation assistants so students have the chance to improve their listening and speaking skills. Furthermore we involve our students in projects and trips connected with the acquisition, use and betterment of their sociolinguistic, linguistic and discourse competences.

Language teaching in the European Union is based on the idea that the goal of language acquisition is communicative competence: the ability to use the language correctly and appropriately to accomplish communication goals. The desired outcome is the ability to communicate competently, not the ability to use the language exactly as a native speaker does.
